48th Scarborough Congress - 2025

This years congress is now only days away - we'll take late entries but please note that all entries received after Wednesday 22nd October will incur a £10 late entry fee!

Our new Club Tournament has attracted a lot of interest with over 20 clubs now competing involving over 160 players. This will become a feature of future congresses.

This year will be our biggest congress at over 440 entries (despite the clash with the Coventry International!)

Many thanks to everyone who has entered and we very much hope it will be a congress to remember and for all the newcomers will be a congress to come back to in future years.

We made several changes for this year ... a new Challengers section, more prize money and reductions to help juniors and seniors along with the Club Tournament where players will now also be playing for their Club as well as themselves.

ChessPick.com are sponsoring the juniors by offering credits for training through their site for the best performing juniors at the congress.

Thanks

Thanks go to Douglas Vleeshhouwer for his work over the past 2 years but this year we welcome back Lara Barnes and we also have Matthew Carr joining the arbiter team who will also be providing the live boards for all the Open boards.

Thanks also go to all the people who have entered so far along with all the generous donations - in particular special thanks go to Zak Tomlinson who is now a regular attender but is sadly unable to make it this year due to other commitments but he's still gone and paid the entry fee he would have paid had he entered!

Also thanks go to Sean Parker for his hard work going through peoples score sheets and creating a PGN of the games - all the games from 2023 & 2024 are available through our games menu.

Accommodation

With the Spa not having any accommodation, we've been able to secure a group booking with the Crown Spa Hotel - details of which will be sent in acknowledgement of entry. We'll look at expanding on this in future years in our aim to help with costs.
